Construction Management Services for the reconstruction of a new single-vehicle concrete bridge, with a width of 13.8 feet over Paihi Gulch on South Hana Highway. The original bridge, built in 1911 was demolished and a detour road and temporary bridge were put in place during construction. Scope of work also included reconstruction of bridge roadway approaches, construction of replacement bridge, installation of pavement marking and signing, and restoration of project site is included in this project.
The bridge’s location along the only road connecting Hana with adjacent communities caused increased public scrutiny on the schedule for this project. B+K worked closely with the County of Maui and the structural designers to address unforeseen conditions on a timely basis, and with the contractor to mitigate any delays arising from changed conditions. This dual pronged approach resulted in the bridge re-opening to the driving public ahead of schedule.
